What’s the project all about?

365 Postcards for Ants is the second phase of a project which started on 1 January 2013, for which I challenged myself to created a miniature painting every single day for the entire year.

The project evolved and people started booking sentimental dates making suggestions for the painting to be done on that day. Every day, I posted the completed picture online, and unsold pieces could be reserved by commenting on the picture. In January 2014, all 365 pieces will be exhibited in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, after which they will be distributed to the owners.

An archive of 2013's paintings can be seen on my Tumblr site.

What's happening for 2014

In celebration of our city's designation as World Design Capital 2014 I've decided to do it all over again, and this time all the paintings will be Cape Town themed. In addition to the original framed painting, there will also be a limited range of 5 "postcards" (archival art prints of the daily paintings) for sale.

A personal message can be included which will be handwritten on the back of the piece, and postcards will be sent out once a month. To book the original painting or a postcard version of it, buyers can view the calendar on this website to see if their date is still available and if so, proceed to book it online. People who have booked an original painting can make a suggestion of at least 5 themes/places/ideas that are directly related to Cape Town. I will pick the idea that resonates with me, and the buyer will only know on the day which one I chose (surprise!).

Original paintings are framed in raw wood and the final framed size is 12.5 x 12.5 cm. They cost R900 each (excl shipping). Please note that paintings will only be shipped after the exhibition in January 2015.

Postcards are 10 x 10 cm and cost R400 each (incl shipping).
