While my fascination with marbles began in childhood, it was during the darkness of the COVID pandemic that I rediscovered the innocence, joy, and lightness of these little objects.. Originally imagined as a formal exhibition, this body of work has, in the true spirit of marbles, turned into an exploration of different scales and media, and a space for me to experiment in a way I haven't allowed myself to for a long time.
The artworks I create during this process will be released roughly once a month, the first of which is this piece: The Iridescent Ordinary. This one is particularly special to me as it’s the first of only two pieces I’ve ever painted on linen, and combines three of my favourite things: the nostalgia of marbles, the iridescent beauty of an oil slick (if you disregard the environmental impact), and of course, the intimacy of miniature painting.
